Vultr launches USD $50m AMD AI supercluster in Ohio for growth

Sat, 6th Dec 2025

Vultr has announced a significant expansion of its collaboration with AMD, focusing on delivering cloud infrastructure for artificial intelligence workloads. The new development centres on a 50-megawatt AI supercluster that deploys 24,000 AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs at Vultr's newly established data centre campus in Springfield, Ohio.

AI capacity boost

The deployment aims to address global demand for scalable and efficient AI training and inference. The 50MW expansion increases Vultr's cloud GPU capacity, allowing enterprises to process more complex workloads and build new AI applications. The increased racked GPU resources are designed to support both large-scale enterprise projects and smaller-scale innovation in rapidly evolving sectors.

Technology partnership

Vultr's relationship with AMD has involved the adoption of various generations of Instinct GPUs, including early deployments of AMD Instinct MI325X and MI355X units. Vultr also plans to incorporate AMD's forthcoming Instinct MI450 series GPUs and Helios rack-scale infrastructure at a later stage. The extension covers full-stack usage, such as utilising AMD EPYC 4005 processors as part of Vultr's broader cloud offering.

"As demand for AI infrastructure continues to accelerate, Vultr is committed to delivering hyperscale capacity with speed and global reach," said J.J. Kardwell, CEO, Vultr. "By investing in the development of racked GPU capacity at scale, we're enabling enterprises to push the boundaries of what's possible with AI and bring next-generation applications to market faster."

Midwest expansion

The Springfield, Ohio facility is Vultr's first data centre in the state. Regional economic development agencies, including JobsOhio and the City of Springfield, have supported the project. This move increases Vultr's presence in the US Midwest and aims to help establish Ohio as a hub for AI and digital infrastructure investment.

Industry focus

The cloud infrastructure is being marketed to enterprises and AI developers who require high-performance, scalable digital resources. Vultr reports it serves customers across 185 countries, offering cloud compute, GPU, bare metal, and storage solutions. Its most recent investment in Ohio is intended to serve both domestic and global demand as AI technology adoption grows.

"Our work with Vultr exemplifies how strategic collaboration can deliver AI infrastructure with global scale and efficiency," said Andrew Dieckmann, Corporate Vice President and General Manager, Data Centre GPU Business Unit, AMD. "Together, we're delivering large-scale AI compute that meets the needs of the most demanding AI workloads."
