AI boosts work-life balance for US business leaders
Recent findings from Tech.co's 2025 Impact of Technology on the Workplace Report indicate that artificial intelligence (AI) is substantially enhancing work-life balance for business leaders in the United States.
A survey of 1,036 senior leaders based in the US revealed that 61% believe AI has positively impacted their work-life balance. The research additionally pinpointed that the most utilised AI tool among this group is ChatGPT.
The survey identified the primary applications of AI by the respondents, highlighting that 43% use it for writing tasks like emails, reports, and presentations. Data analysis was utilised by 37% of leaders, while 33% reported using AI for customer support and chatbots, and 25% for design tasks involving the creation of images and graphics. Compared to the previous year, there was a noted 17% increase in the adoption of AI for writing-related functions.
AI appears to provide substantial benefits by automating various tasks, thereby allowing senior business executives extra time to focus on more complex or strategic-level tasks. This enhancement in efficiency is tied to improved productivity and could also lead to a better return on investment. Meanwhile, amongst companies employing AI, there is significant openness towards adopting a four-day workweek, with 93% expressing willingness, compared to just 44% of companies not utilising AI.
Last year's report showed 72% of leaders who extensively used AI reported high organisational productivity, supporting the idea that AI use correlates with operational benefits.
Of the AI tools being used, ChatGPT was employed by 73% of AI-using business leaders during 2024. Microsoft products saw a substantial uptake, with a 39% increase in usage among senior leaders, which could be attributed to the integration of AI into its office suite. Conversely, Google's Gemini chatbot has seen a decline, losing 13% of its market share among US business leaders despite recent rebranding efforts.
Jack Turner, Editor of Tech.co, commented on the findings, "For all the fears of AI replacing jobs, Tech.co's latest research has found that the technology is actually helping many of us with time consuming tasks such as writing and data analysis. This is easing the pressure on workers, and increasing productivity. Just as the introduction of the assembly line allowed Henry Ford to revolutionize mass production methods and introduce a 5-day week for employees, AI could well prove the next logical step, and pave the way for the 4-day week. We already know that companies which use AI are more likely to consider shortening the work week than those who don't."
