AUA launches AI agents for student support & admissions

The American University of Antigua and Druid AI have launched AI agents for student support, recruitment and retention at the medical school, marking the first deployment of Druid AI's platform in medical higher education.
The system will initially be used for outbound contact with prospective students across WhatsApp, text, email and chat. It is designed to identify missing application documents and upcoming deadlines, follow up with applicants automatically, and record activity and conversation data in Salesforce.
Additional uses are planned for student enquiries and support. Another tool will identify enrolled students who may be struggling academically and connect them with advisers before they fall behind.
The agreement adds a digital layer to AUA's admissions and advising work at a time when universities are under pressure to improve response times and reduce administrative strain. Medical education is especially exposed to those pressures, as institutions compete for applicants while managing complex admissions processes and student support demands.
The rollout expands Druid AI's work with universities in the US, including institutions in Florida, Georgia and Virginia. For AUA, part of the Manipal Education and Medical Group, it adds to the university's use of technology in teaching and student services.
Joseph Kim, Chief Executive Officer of Druid AI, said the project reflects a belief that automation should support staff rather than replace them. "Medical education demands a higher standard of student support, and AUA shares our belief that AI should enhance human connection rather than replace it," he said.
Kim added: "This partnership demonstrates that enterprise-grade agentic AI can move at the speed institutions need, delivering a production-ready solution in weeks, not semesters."
AUA's leadership described the decision as part of a broader effort to use technology to support students. "AUA has been on the forefront of exploring and using VR and AI to foster the success of our students for some time. The collaboration with Druid AI is the next exciting step in the institution's journey," said Dr. Peter Bell, President of the American University of Antigua.
The university assessed the technology as a way to broaden and speed up contact with prospective and current students. It is intended to help admissions and advising teams track document requests, deadlines and early signs that a student may need intervention.
"Our students choose AUA because they want to become physicians, and everything we do should help them get there," said Sheikh Sadiq, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Chief Operating Officer at the American University of Antigua.
He added: "We evaluated this technology not as a replacement for our team but as a way to reach every prospective and current student with the right information at the right time. That kind of personalized support at scale is what sets us apart in a competitive market."
Fast Rollout
The deal moved from first conversation to a signed contract in 45 days. The platform also integrates with AUA's existing Salesforce and Vonage systems, allowing it to fit into current admissions and communications workflows rather than requiring a separate process.
That matters for institutions that often have fragmented administrative systems and long procurement cycles. By connecting the tools to systems already in use, universities can focus on specific operational tasks such as chasing application documents, recording interactions and directing cases to staff when human judgement is needed.
Sector Push
The deployment also points to a wider shift in higher education technology, from chat-based interfaces to tools that carry out defined actions inside institutional systems. In this case, the software is not limited to answering questions. It also follows up on incomplete applications, logs information in Salesforce and flags applicants or students who may require attention.
Druid AI works with more than 250 enterprises worldwide and supports more than 100 languages. The company has also been recognised as a Challenger in Gartner's 2025 Magic Quadrant for Conversational AI Platforms.
For AUA, the immediate test will be whether the new tools help staff maintain contact with applicants and students in a competitive market for medical education places. The initial use case is straightforward: identify what is missing, contact the student on their preferred channel, and record the result in the university's existing system.
