Broadcom unveils Tanzu Data Intelligence & Platform 10.3 for AI
Broadcom has announced the availability of VMware Tanzu Data Intelligence, a platform that provides unified and low-latency access to multimodal data for analytics, applications, and agentic AI, alongside the release of VMware Tanzu Platform 10.3 for accelerating the development and integration of GenAI capabilities.a
Enterprise data challenges
The advances in AI are creating new opportunities to deliver more intelligent enterprise applications, often by leveraging proprietary corporate data. However, Broadcom cited research from Gartner predicting, "through 2026, 30% of generative AI (GenAI) projects will be abandoned after proof of concept due to poor data quality, inadequate risk controls, escalating costs or unclear business value." Other analyst insights referenced by Broadcom estimate that up to 90% of enterprise data remains unstructured and difficult to analyse or use in applications.
Purnima Padmanabhan, Vice President and General Manager of the Tanzu Division at Broadcom, commented on these challenges and the opportunities for modern data platforms.
"Business leaders who want to be part of the next wave of AI application innovation - such as personalised customer experiences or agentic workflows - understand that modern app and data architecture is critical to the development cycle. While many organisations have invested in application platforms and looked to SaaS platforms to help modernise their data strategy, they struggle with silos between their application and data teams and the unpredictability of costs of data movement both within and across cloud environments."
"Tanzu Data Intelligence combined with Tanzu Platform provides our customers with the power of a modern multimodal data lakehouse architecture and our proven single-command CF-push technology but with the cost predictability of a private cloud."
Features of Tanzu Data Intelligence
Tanzu Data Intelligence is positioned as a data lakehouse platform which aims to address the issues of siloed data access and unpredictable costs. The architecture is designed for performance, flexibility, and governance in handling diverse and large-scale data workloads. It integrates ingestion, processing, querying, and AI/ML capabilities into a single solution.
According to Broadcom, Tanzu Data Intelligence offers unified access to both structured and unstructured data across environments, supporting workloads from terabytes to petabytes with high concurrency and low latency. The platform supports data lineage and governance requirements, contributing to transparency and observability for enterprise data processes.
Specific components of the platform include ingestion and workflow orchestration for real-time and event-driven architecture, federated query services for unified data access without duplication, scalable container compute services, in-memory and transactional data layers for real-time analytics, and embedded support for AI/ML applications, including native vector search and semantic similarity queries.
Tanzu Platform 10.3 enhancements
The Tanzu Platform 10.3 release extends Broadcom's application delivery and AI infrastructure offering. The updated platform introduces features for application teams and platform engineers, focusing on operational control, observability, and security. These include enhanced dashboards, service publishing capabilities, AI model management, application modernisation tools, and a new vulnerability dashboard for security transparency.
Broadcom highlighted the integration between Tanzu Platform and Tanzu Data Intelligence, which enables application and AI teams to access low-latency, real-time data regardless of its storage location, supporting the development of AI-powered applications. The platform's goal is to streamline the process from development to deployment by abstracting infrastructure complexities and enabling rapid code deployment.
With Tanzu Platform 10.3, new capabilities have been introduced, such as service publishing in the Tanzu Platform Marketplace for collaboration and scalability, granular AI model service plans with quota management and webhook integration for operational security, automated application modernisation features, and integrated data services observability within Tanzu Hub dashboards. The vulnerability insights dashboard visualises risk exposure and facilitates the triaging and remediation of security vulnerabilities.
AI Starter Kit and reference architecture
Broadcom is also offering an "AI Starter Kit" for Tanzu Platform, which includes tooling and guidance for deploying AI applications. The kit is designed to allow organisations already using Tanzu Platform, including earlier versions, to evaluate and integrate AI capabilities without requiring a full platform upgrade.
The new releases underscore Broadcom's continued focus on supporting enterprise IT teams building AI applications at scale, with an emphasis on security, governance, and operational efficiency within private cloud environments.
