Cloudinary has been named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Digital Asset Management Platforms, its third consecutive appearance in the report.

The designation marks a shift from its previous two placements as a Visionary. Gartner said the ranking reflected completeness of vision and ability to execute.

Digital asset management software helps companies organise, store and distribute images, video and other media across websites, apps and marketing channels. The market has drawn more attention as brands manage rising volumes of visual content and look for tools that can automate tagging, search and moderation.

Cloudinary said more than 13,000 brands use its platform to manage visual media from ingestion through distribution. It also said more than 4 million developers use its tools. Customers include Adidas, Etsy, Fiverr, Grubhub, Minted and Paul Smith.

The business has been expanding its use of artificial intelligence in media workflows. According to Cloudinary, governed AI agents can handle tasks including tagging, search and moderation, allowing teams to focus on other work across the content lifecycle.

Recent additions cited by Cloudinary include Image to Video, a tool designed to turn static images into videos at scale. The company also highlighted agents intended to automate metadata, enable natural language search, create workflows and moderate content, alongside a moderation product that can approve, flag or reject content based on brand guidelines.

The change in vendor rankings comes as companies face pressure to manage growing content libraries across multiple markets and devices. Digital commerce, media publishing and consumer brands are increasingly linking asset management systems with broader marketing and customer experience software.

Rob Daynes, Vice President of New Business at Cloudinary, said the recognition reflected a wider change in how the sector is viewed.

"We're proud to be named a Leader in digital asset management platforms by Gartner, and we believe it signals a broader shift: DAM is no longer just a content library, it's part of the platform that powers your entire digital experience," Daynes said.

Cloudinary argues that digital asset management is moving beyond archival and workflow functions into a more central role in online content delivery. That includes preparing images and video for websites, mobile applications and other digital channels where speed and presentation can affect customer behaviour.

Daynes linked that role to the company's customer base and day-to-day operations on the platform.

"Our customers see that shift every day. When teams create, manage and optimize images and video from one platform, they build fast and flawless visual experiences that engage and convert across every market and channel," he said.

AI and content

Cloudinary has long positioned itself around image and video management, transformation and delivery. Its latest product messaging places greater emphasis on AI-assisted workflow tools, particularly for repetitive asset-preparation tasks that large marketing and commerce teams often handle manually.

That focus mirrors a broader pattern across enterprise software, where suppliers are adding AI features to search, metadata generation and compliance checks. In digital asset management, these functions can reduce the time needed to classify large media libraries and help teams keep content consistent across regions and channels.

Cloudinary said this matters because brands increasingly treat digital experience as a source of competitive advantage, particularly where web performance and visual presentation can influence revenue. It linked that position to periods of heavy traffic such as product launches and seasonal demand.

"Brands today understand that a fast, flawless digital experience is a competitive edge, and that every image and every second of load time affects revenue," Daynes added. "With AI built into our platform since our inception, Cloudinary gives teams the performance and control to deliver high-quality visual experiences at scale, from everyday traffic to peak moments like product launches, live events and travel seasons, while AI agents take on the work of preparing media for every page, device and channel."
