Cowbell launches AI risk advisor for policyholders
Mon, 5th Oct 2026 (Today)
Cowbell has launched Risk Advisor for policyholders in the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom.
The insurer describes the product as an individual AI agent for each policyholder, designed to turn cyber risk information into a prioritised set of actions. It is available through the Cowbell Platform and the company's OMNI mobile app.
Risk Advisor draws on several sources of information tied to the insured business, including Cowbell Factors, Spotlights, security findings, connected security tools and policy information. Cowbell says the system explains which issues are affecting a risk score, which findings should be addressed first and what practical steps a business can take.
The launch is aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises, which often have limited in-house cyber expertise despite facing a growing volume of alerts, vulnerabilities and external threat data. The tool is intended to present that information in plain language and rank recommendations by urgency and potential risk reduction.
For organisations using artificial intelligence, Risk Advisor also interprets three AI-related measures covering observability, autonomy and governance. These indicators are presented as AI Exposure, AI Vulnerability and AI Assurance, with the system explaining the underlying signals and suggesting actions to improve the organisation's AI risk position.
"A 40-person manufacturer shouldn't need a team of cybersecurity specialists to understand the risks it faces," said Rajeev Gupta, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at Cowbell.
"With OMNI, every Cowbell policyholder gets their own AI Risk Advisor, grounded in their business, security posture, and policy context. It continuously interprets the signals around that business, prioritises what matters, explains the evidence supporting its recommendations, and connects the policyholder with Cowbell's cybersecurity experts when human guidance is needed. This is how cyber insurance becomes an active part of a company's resilience, rather than a document sitting in a drawer," Gupta said.
How it works
More than 60 connectors can feed additional data into the system, giving the adviser greater visibility into a customer's technology environment. Risk Advisor can summarise findings from connected tools and recommend mitigations based on the configurations it observes.
The product sits within OMNI, Cowbell's broader decision intelligence system. Each adviser is grounded in a continuously updated operational model of the insured organisation, which is checked against live data and adjusted automatically for routine changes, with larger differences referred for human review.
The system also draws on Cowbell's Global Risk Pool of more than 55 million businesses. That dataset is used alongside the customer's own signals to support recommendations and provide evidence for why a specific action has been suggested.
Cowbell positions the product as a way to move cyber insurance beyond risk transfer and into more active risk management. In practice, that means giving policyholders direct explanations for score changes, identified vulnerabilities and suggested responses, while also linking them to Cowbell's in-house cyber specialists and resilience services when needed.
Gupta gave an example of how the tool is intended to respond to policyholder questions about changing risk conditions.
"A policyholder can ask why their risk score changed this week and get a specific answer," Gupta said.
"Risk Advisor identifies the findings behind the change, distinguishes confirmed detections from advisory indicators, and prioritises actions that could have the greatest impact. That combination of specificity, grounding, and transparency is what makes AI actionable for policyholders," he said.
The launch reflects a wider push across insurance and cybersecurity to use AI systems to interpret large volumes of technical data for customers that may not have dedicated internal teams. Cowbell's approach combines automated guidance with escalation to human experts when specialist support is needed.
Risk Advisor is now available to Cowbell policyholders through the company's platform and mobile app.
