CypherGenics rebrands for post-quantum security push

QDSC has rebranded as CypherGenics, marking a push to bring post-quantum security products to enterprises and critical infrastructure operators.
The new identity reflects a shift from research to commercial deployment of tools for identity, authentication and encryption. Its approach is designed to work with existing infrastructure rather than requiring customers to replace hardware and systems.
Post-quantum cryptography has risen on the agenda for companies and government bodies as they assess the risk that future quantum computers could weaken current cryptographic methods. The concern is especially acute in sectors that run large fleets of connected devices, including operational technology environments, utilities and industrial systems.
CypherGenics said its platform is based on patented FASTKAT technology and avoids the certificates and external dependencies associated with traditional public key infrastructure. The system is intended to protect low-powered edge devices, microcontrollers, sensors and other connected systems that may struggle to support more conventional approaches.
The business has operated for more than 30 years in cybersecurity and applied information science. It now aims to build what it describes as a broader post-quantum security platform around key management, identity and authentication.
For many organisations, the challenge is securing cryptographic keys across sprawling networks of devices while preparing for a possible transition away from today's public key systems. Businesses in critical infrastructure and industrial settings often face added constraints because older or low-powered devices are difficult to upgrade and can remain in service for long periods.
A board appointment has also raised the profile of the company's latest push. Kent Kresa, former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Northrop Grumman, recently joined the board, according to the company.
William Arbaugh outlined the company's view of the market challenge.
"Organisations are facing a convergence of threats and requirements that existing security architectures weren't designed to handle. Critical infrastructure operators must prepare for quantum-era security while continuing to protect highly distributed environments comprised of millions of devices, many of which can't support traditional encryption approaches. We've built CypherGenics specifically to solve this problem," said Arbaugh, President, CypherGenics.
Market pressure
Cybersecurity vendors and large technology groups have been stepping up work on post-quantum tools as governments and standards bodies advance plans for new cryptographic standards. For users, the practical challenge is less about a single software update and more about replacing or adapting security architectures built around assumptions that may not hold in a quantum era.
That creates an opening for companies that say they can reduce migration costs and limit operational disruption. CypherGenics is positioning itself on that point, saying customers can add quantum-ready protections without major changes to infrastructure or user authentication processes.
John N. Stewart, Founder of Talons Ventures and Strategic Advisor to CypherGenics, said the issue is less about theory than whether security systems can operate in existing environments.
"The market doesn't need another complex security architecture that only works in ideal conditions. Post-quantum security must work in the real world, across existing infrastructure, constrained devices and in environments where rip-and-replace is not an option. CypherGenics is focused on that problem in a very practical way: simplifying identity, authentication and encryption so organizations can prepare for the quantum era without adding more unnecessary complexity," said Stewart.
Industry view
Analysts have increasingly pointed to quantum risk as a long-term security problem with immediate planning implications. Sectors with long asset lifecycles, sensitive communications and high regulatory exposure are under particular pressure to review how data and devices will be protected over time.
Chris Steffen, Vice President of Research, Enterprise Management Associates, described the shift as a broader change in the threat landscape.

The work being done by CypherGenics is sorely needed and will help position enterprises, utilities and government agencies for success in a post-quantum world," said Steffen.
