Danfoss Climate Solutions has started producing oil-free check valves at its Monterrey facility in Mexico, bringing a component used with Danfoss Turbocor compressors closer to North American customers.

The move adds another product line to the expanded Monterrey factory, which Danfoss says has doubled capacity since its enlargement. The site already produces scroll compressors, BOCK compressors, sensors and microchannel heat exchangers.

Producing the valves in Mexico is intended to cut delivery times and reduce supply chain disruption for North American original equipment manufacturers using Turbocor compressors in chillers and heat pumps. Customers can also expect gradual approval under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

The valves are a key part of oil-free cooling systems used in commercial buildings and industrial settings. Used alongside Turbocor oil-free compressors, they are designed to improve the output of chillers and heat pumps built around those systems.

Product range

Production in Monterrey will expand following an earlier broadening of the range, with the factory set to make 12 models. They will be available in 3 1/8-inch and 4 1/8-inch steel or solder flange options, with or without ball valves, and in regular or compact sizes.

The oil-free check valve combines a ball valve-style shut-off with a check valve. Danfoss says the design reduces discharge pressure drop while increasing capacity and efficiency in Turbocor-based applications.

Additional features include an integrated stop function, a damped check valve function, an integrated diffuser elbow and an integrated staging port. These are aimed at manufacturers building commercial cooling and heat pump equipment.

Data centre demand

Demand for oil-free systems has risen in recent years, particularly in the data centre sector. As cooling loads grow with digital infrastructure expansion, operators have been seeking ways to curb energy use and lower carbon emissions.

Danfoss also pointed to applications in airports, hospitals, hotels, offices and other commercial buildings. In these sectors, cooling and heat pump systems have become a greater focus as operators seek lower-emission building services and lower operating costs.

Oil-free compressor systems remove oil from the compressor design, a change Danfoss says supports dependable cooling in commercial air conditioning and heat pump applications. The company says this approach can help customers pursuing energy efficiency and decarbonisation targets.

The Monterrey investment is part of a wider push by manufacturers to place production closer to end markets in North America. Regionalisation has become a more prominent strategy across industrial supply chains as companies respond to logistics disruption, customer pressure for shorter lead times and changing trade rules.

Mexico has become an increasingly important manufacturing base for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment sold into the United States and Canada. For suppliers, expanding assembly there can offer a balance of geographic proximity, industrial capacity and trade access across the region.

For Danfoss, the latest line adds to a North American manufacturing footprint intended to support original equipment manufacturers more directly. The company employs more than 39,000 people globally and operates around 100 factories in more than 100 countries.

Vikas Anand, Vice President of Danfoss Climate Solutions in North America, described the move as part of a broader regional strategy. "The launch of OFC valve production in Monterrey is a strategic investment in North America," Anand said.

He linked the decision to customer supply chains and product delivery. "Our goal is to become our customers' preferred technology partner while supporting them in their sustainability goals. We are looking forward to creating greater value for our customers by improving our product delivery and strengthening their supply chains," Anand said.
