DE-CIX launches Google Gold peering at all major US exchanges
DE-CIX has announced that its Google Gold Verified Peering Provider service is now operational at its major Internet Exchanges in New York, Dallas, Chicago, and Phoenix.
The Google Gold Verified Peering Provider (VPP) designation indicates that DE-CIX has met the technical requirements and performance standards established by Google. This certification identifies Internet service providers (ISPs) and Internet Exchanges (IXs) that ensure diverse and reliable connectivity to the Google network.
With the service being implemented this week in New York and Dallas, DE-CIX has confirmed that the Google Gold VPP service is now available across all its key U.S locations. Additionally, networks connected to DE-CIX in Mexico can access the service via DE-CIX Dallas.
Certified access
The Google Verified Peering Provider programme is designed to help Google customers - from small businesses to large enterprises - secure reliable connections to Google services. By choosing a Verified Peering Provider, customers can expect a connection as continuously available as possible.
For many smaller North American ISPs and network operators who may not meet Google's direct peering requirements, DE-CIX's new status provides a pathway to maintain secure, ongoing access to both Google's services and cloud workloads. The solution leverages DE-CIX's simplified Layer-3 connectivity to support uninterrupted access to Google infrastructure.
The rollout of enterprise-grade connectivity to Google also enables wholesale network providers to offer their customers persistent access to the tech giant's services. For enterprises using Google Workspace, SASE (Secure Access Service Edge), or other Internet-based applications hosted on Google Cloud, this means the possibility of obtaining dedicated, reliable connectivity to support mission-critical operations via DE-CIX's exchanges.
Benefits for smaller providers
"We are delighted to have implemented our service as a Google Verified Peering Provider at our major IXs in the U.S., and to be among the first IX providers globally to achieve Gold status in the program," comments Brandon Ross, DE-CIX Senior Interconnection Consultant for the Americas. "We can now help network providers in the U.S. deliver the best quality of connectivity to Google services, simply and effectively."
By enabling access to Google's services through this certification, DE-CIX aims to help smaller ISPs and businesses that may lack direct access to Google benefit from enhanced resilience and performance when connecting to Google Cloud and associated platforms. This includes support for business tools and applications, potentially leading to greater consistency in service levels for end users.
Wider implications
DE-CIX provides a neutral platform for peering and interconnection services in North America. Its presence at carrier hotels and data centres within each metro region is intended to facilitate access points for a wide range of network operators. The company operates a significant number of access points across North America, enabling broader customer reach and greater resilience for its services.
The implementation of the Google Gold Verified Peering Provider service is expected to augment connectivity options for network operators in the U.S. and Mexico via DE-CIX Dallas, assisting organisations that require high reliability for their cloud and application workloads.
