Delta buys Fremont site to boost Silicon Valley push

Delta Electronics has acquired a 55,000-square-foot facility in Fremont, expanding its Silicon Valley footprint.

The Bayside Parkway site will be used for research and development, lab testing, customer demonstrations and service work tied to data centre infrastructure and smart energy systems. The building will support Delta's work with customers in areas including power infrastructure for artificial intelligence and data centre operations.

The property spans about 54,094 square feet on 3.35 acres. It was built in 1992 and renovated in 2023.

Its technical infrastructure includes 4,000 amps of dedicated power and a 500 kW backup generator, supporting testing and demonstration activity for equipment used across energy and computing environments.

The acquisition adds to Delta's existing presence in Fremont, where its Americas headquarters is based, and reflects the company's view of the US market as an area of continued growth.

Silicon Valley remains an important base for suppliers targeting data centre operators, chip companies and businesses building artificial intelligence systems. As computing demand rises, those groups are increasing spending on electrical systems and energy infrastructure.

Delta describes the Fremont facility as a place where customers can view systems across what it calls the grid-to-chip chain. In practice, that means equipment spanning wider energy infrastructure to systems used inside AI data centres.

US expansion

The Fremont purchase follows other recent Delta investment in US infrastructure. Earlier this year, the company unveiled a grid-interactive microgrid at its Detroit-area facility in partnership with DTE Energy.

That project was presented as a live operating energy system for commercial and data centre customers. Together with the new California facility, it points to a strategy of building sites where Delta can test equipment and show customers how systems perform under working conditions.

Delta has operated in the Americas for almost 40 years and serves sectors including data centres, information technology, telecoms, renewable energy, microgrids, electric vehicle charging, building automation and industrial automation. Its regional network includes offices, research centres, manufacturing operations and service facilities across the US, Canada, Mexico and Brazil.

The Fremont expansion comes as suppliers across the data centre and energy markets respond to a new phase of demand driven by AI computing. Operators are looking for ways to secure more electrical capacity, improve efficiency and manage backup power as facilities become larger and more power-intensive.

For Delta, adding a facility with dedicated power, backup generation and space for lab and customer work brings it closer to many of the technology groups shaping that spending cycle. Silicon Valley remains a strategic centre because of its concentration of customers and partners in semiconductor, AI and data centre markets.

The building will bring together engineering, testing, service and customer-facing functions in one location, alongside Delta's existing headquarters presence in Fremont.
