iCOUNTER has appointed Mark H. FitzPatrick as Chief Financial Officer, adding a finance executive with more than 25 years of experience across technology, media and consumer businesses.

FitzPatrick most recently served as Chief Financial Officer at SimpliSafe. Earlier, he was Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President at Madison Square Garden Entertainment, Deputy Chief Financial Officer at WeWork, Chief Financial Officer of Residential Services at Time Warner Cable, and held senior finance roles at AOL and Citigroup.

At iCOUNTER, he will oversee financial strategy and operations as the company expands its Counter Threat Operating System, or CTOS, and builds out its leadership team. The appointment comes as it scales to meet demand from enterprise and public sector organisations for third-party risk intelligence and threat operations.

His background includes periods at several companies during significant strategic and financing activity. At WeWork, he helped secure more than USD $10 billion in equity and debt capital. At Madison Square Garden Entertainment, he worked on the acquisition of MSG Networks and the launch of Sphere Las Vegas.

The move suggests a focus on financial discipline as cybersecurity companies face pressure to convert customer demand into sustainable growth. Finance chiefs in the sector have taken on broader responsibilities in recent years, particularly as buyers scrutinise spending and vendors try to balance expansion with operating control.

iCOUNTER focuses on third-party risk, an area that has gained prominence as companies assess weaknesses across suppliers, vendors and partners. Its CTOS platform is designed to help organisations identify and respond to threats across those wider ecosystems.

FitzPatrick linked his move to that market trend in his first comments on the appointment. "With nearly half of all breaches involving third parties, iCOUNTER is addressing one of cybersecurity's most urgent challenges: the threats emerging across third-party ecosystems, where organizations have the least visibility and control," said FitzPatrick, Chief Financial Officer at iCOUNTER.

He added: "What sets iCOUNTER apart is its ability to turn threat intelligence into decisive action. I'm excited to join John and the team at this pivotal stage, building the financial foundation to accelerate growth and help more organizations counter threats before they become breaches."

John Watters, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of iCOUNTER, said the company was seeking a senior finance leader with experience managing expansion at large and fast-growing businesses. He also tied the hire to what he described as rising customer awareness of exposure in third-party networks.

"Mark has spent his career helping category-defining companies scale, and he understands what it takes to turn rapid growth into durable, disciplined performance," said Watters.

He added: "As more organizations recognize that their greatest exposure sits across their vendors, suppliers and partners, demand for what we do is accelerating. Mark's experience building and scaling businesses at the highest levels makes him the right leader to help us meet that demand with discipline."

The hire extends a pattern seen across private cybersecurity companies, many of which have recruited senior finance executives with public-company or large-scale operating experience. Such appointments often reflect a need to strengthen internal controls, sharpen capital allocation and prepare for a more mature phase of growth.

For iCOUNTER, bringing in a Chief Financial Officer from businesses including SimpliSafe, WeWork and Madison Square Garden Entertainment adds experience in fundraising, operational oversight and corporate transactions. That breadth may prove relevant as the company looks to expand its reach in a market where customers increasingly want closer visibility over risks beyond their own networks.
