Luma Health acquires Tonic to streamline patient intake & care

Thu, 20th Nov 2025

Luma Health has acquired Tonic Health from R1, adding new expertise in patient intake, e-consents, and patient-reported outcomes to its technology platform. This acquisition expands Luma's reach to more than 1,000 health systems and over 100 million patients across the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and the Caribbean.

Growing footprint

Luma's expanded portfolio includes health systems that predominantly use Oracle Health electronic health records (EHRs). Tonic Health, founded in 2010, has built a client base among organisations using these EHRs and will bring that experience to Luma's operations. The combined company now supports over one third of people in the United States, in addition to patients internationally.

Operational efficiency

The acquisition is aimed at reducing staff workload and improving patient access to care. Luma's main objective is to automate administrative tasks that often present bottlenecks for health systems and their staff, particularly during the intake process and after patient visits.

"Major health systems rely on both Luma and Tonic to cut out manual coordination between staff and patients and get patients ready for care," said Aditya Bansod, Co-Founder and CTO, Luma. "We've long admired Tonic's focus on EHR and partner integration, designing products that work for patients and healthcare providers, and making patient intake and follow-up simpler, and we're thrilled to welcome them to Luma. Together, we dramatically reduce the effort to successfully coordinate care, freeing short-staffed teams from manual tracking and follow-up so our customers' resources go farther."

Customer perspective

Luma's technology is already in use at several of the largest academic medical centres in the US. The addition of Tonic Health's tools is expected to deepen integration with Oracle Health and create a broader set of capabilities for existing customers.

"Luma and Tonic have each been trusted partners for Fisher-Titus. Both understand the challenges our organization faces and what technology we need to help deliver exceptional care," said Linda Stevenson, CIO, Fisher-Titus Medical Centre. "We're excited to continue the partnership with the expanded Luma team to reach more of our patients with less burden on our hardworking staff."

AI and workflow

Luma stated that it plans to keep investing in technology that supports patients throughout their care journey. Part of this strategy involves developing and deploying AI-enabled workflows to save time for clinical and support teams, while helping patients prepare for and complete their healthcare appointments.

"We believe patients and healthcare providers deserve an easier way to handle everything that comes before their visit," said Anya Henriod, General Manager, Tonic Health. "The Tonic team couldn't be more excited to work with our new colleagues at Luma to remove the bottlenecks that hold care back. We will build the best-in-business technology together to support our customers as we continue to grow."
