Mississippi travel campaign lets creator sell bookings

BYRDLI, Visit Mississippi and Travel South USA have launched Mississippi Found, a creator-led travel campaign with photographer Nicole Zelkowitz. The project turns Zelkowitz's trip across Mississippi into a bookable travel storefront for her audience.
The campaign follows her journey through Tupelo, the Mississippi Delta, Jackson and the Gulf Coast. As she travels, the hotels, destinations and itineraries linked to the trip are being turned into products in her BYRDLI Travel Club, where followers can book stays and a multi-day itinerary.
The launch reflects a wider push by travel groups and technology companies to connect social media influence more directly to travel sales. Rather than sending audiences to affiliate links or external booking sites, BYRDLI's model allows creators to assemble and sell trips under their own brand.
Creator model
BYRDLI says its platform combines creator-owned travel storefronts with booking, payment and fulfilment tools, along with access to travel inventory. It positions this as infrastructure that lets creators move from publishing travel content to selling travel products based on the places they visit and promote.
The Mississippi campaign is intended as a live example of that approach. Zelkowitz is documenting the trip while building products around it in real time on her mobile phone.
Vanessa Richards, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of BYRDLI, outlined how the system is being used during the trip.
"There is real travel infrastructure sitting underneath this. As Nicole discovers Mississippi, she can turn those discoveries into her own travel products, from the hotels she stays in to her full itinerary and package, inside a Travel Club she owns. In real time, on her mobile phone, while in destination. Behind that is the technology and tools to build, book, pay for, fulfil and measure the travel. Not another affiliate link, the infrastructure to actually distribute it," said Vanessa Richards, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of BYRDLI.
Tourism link
For Mississippi's tourism authorities, the arrangement offers a way to connect destination marketing with bookings that can be traced to a specific creator campaign. Travel South USA is also part of the collaboration, which BYRDLI described as part of a broader effort across the American South.
Visit Mississippi says the campaign focuses on the state's food, music, communities and landscapes. Those elements are being presented not only as content themes, but as the basis for travel products that will remain available after the trip ends.
Zelkowitz said the journey would take her outside her usual travel habits and visual style.
"I think this trip to Mississippi will be a great experience because it will push me outside of my comfort zone. I've been to very few states in the Southern USA, and I'm excited to see what this one has to offer. I rarely travel to places where I cannot be immersed in mountains, so this will be a nice change of pace and help me push my photography and storytelling to new levels in fun, challenging ways. I am also particularly excited about having my exact travel experience available for my community to book via my Travel Club," said Zelkowitz.
The campaign also highlights a shift in the relationship between creators and travel brands. Travel influencers have long shaped where audiences choose to go, but they have usually earned through sponsorships or affiliate fees rather than by selling trips directly.
BYRDLI is seeking to position itself in that gap by offering white-label Travel Clubs and commerce tools to creators, publishers and independent travel advisers. In practice, that means a creator can present selected hotels or a full itinerary as a curated product, while the platform handles booking and transactions in the background.
Katie Coats, Chief Marketing Officer of Visit Mississippi, said the tourism body saw the campaign as a different route from storytelling to trip planning.
"Mississippi is a destination shaped by its music, food, communities and attractions. This partnership gives us a new way to share those stories while creating a clearer path for inspired travelers to begin planning and booking their own Mississippi experience," said Katie Coats, Chief Marketing Officer of Visit Mississippi.
The products built around Zelkowitz's journey will remain live in her Travel Club after the trip, giving the campaign a commercial afterlife beyond the social posts created during the road trip.
