Morningstar & PitchBook join Google Cloud AI preview
Wed, 26th Aug 2026 (Today)
Morningstar and PitchBook are adding Model Context Protocol integrations with Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise for Financial Services and have joined Google Cloud as launch partners for the product's preview.
The move will allow eligible subscribers to bring Morningstar investment research and data, and PitchBook private market intelligence, into Gemini Enterprise for Financial Services. The integrations are designed for tasks such as investment research, due diligence, portfolio monitoring and manager analysis within AI-driven workflows.
The service will provide source-attributed answers, allowing users to see the data, research and analysis behind responses generated in Gemini. PitchBook content available through the integration will include information on companies, investors, funds, transactions and market activity, while Morningstar will provide public market data, research, ratings and market insights.
Access will be limited to eligible Morningstar and PitchBook subscribers, including clients with software subscriptions that include individual integration access and enterprise licensing arrangements that cover MCP use. Availability is expected soon.
AI research tools
The announcement reflects a broader shift in financial services as firms seek to place proprietary datasets and established research products inside generative AI systems used by analysts, investors and dealmakers. In that market, the quality of underlying information and visibility into its source have become central issues for vendors and clients alike.
Google Cloud has been developing industry-specific versions of its Gemini Enterprise product, and financial services is one of the sectors where firms are testing whether AI tools can move closer to regulated, research-heavy workflows. Morningstar and PitchBook are positioning their data and analysis as reference material to ground AI-generated responses.
Morningstar provides investment data and research across public and private markets. It also has an investment management business with about USD $375 billion in assets under management and advisement as of the end of June. The company operates through wholly owned subsidiaries in 32 countries.
PitchBook, which Morningstar owns, focuses on private capital markets data and research. It serves more than 100,000 clients worldwide and has more than 3,000 employees across offices in Seattle, San Francisco, New York, London, Singapore and Mumbai.
Data grounding
The integration targets financial professionals who increasingly want to query investment information within AI systems rather than switch between separate research applications. That includes both public and private market use cases, a combination Morningstar and PitchBook say offers a broader view of investment activity.
"Artificial intelligence is transforming how investors and financial professionals discover, evaluate, and act on information. But the value of AI depends on the quality of the information behind it. By bringing independent research and investment intelligence from Morningstar and PitchBook into Gemini Enterprise for Financial Services, we want to help investors access our insights more efficiently, while preserving transparency in the sources behind those answers," said Seth Sprinkle, Global Head of AI Platforms Strategy and Partnerships at Morningstar.
PitchBook framed the product around the need for trusted data in AI systems used for investment work.
"The quality of the data grounding AI has never mattered more. We believe our AI + HI methodology, combining advanced AI with human insight, makes PitchBook a trusted grounding source for enterprise AI. Working with Google to bring that intelligence into Gemini Enterprise lets users ask harder questions and receive answers backed by intelligence from Morningstar and PitchBook," Tom Van Buskirk, Executive Vice President of Technology and Engineering at PitchBook, said.
For Google Cloud, the partnership adds specialist financial datasets and research content to a product aimed at institutional users. It also highlights competition among large technology groups to secure content partnerships that make their AI systems more useful in sectors where general-purpose web information is not enough.
"To deliver real business impact from agentic AI, organizations need seamless access to trusted, domain-specific data. By integrating Morningstar and PitchBook into Gemini Enterprise for Financial Services, we are enabling financial professionals to accelerate investment research and make decisions with confidence," said Satish Thomas, Vice President at Google Cloud.
