Nasuni sees 189% growth as AEC sector moves to hybrid cloud
Nasuni has reported 189% growth in data under management in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) sector over the past two years.
The company now manages file workloads for over 250 AEC firms worldwide, including eight of the ten largest firms in the United States, as demand for modern data infrastructure increases within the sector.
The AEC industry faces complex challenges due to large design files and project teams distributed across remote locations. According to Nasuni's 2025 industry report, The Era of Hybrid Cloud Storage: How AI and Cybersecurity Are Shaping Enterprise Storage Strategies, 81% of AEC firms have adopted a hybrid cloud approach to balance on-premises performance and cloud flexibility.
Cybersecurity remains a significant concern with 76% of AEC organisations experiencing a cyberattack in the previous year. On average, recovery from these incidents took over five weeks, highlighting the sector's vulnerability to ransomware and the need for robust data recovery capabilities. The report identifies scalability and enhanced collaboration as the two top perceived benefits of cloud infrastructure in the sector.
Commenting on the impact of adopting the platform, Robb Muench, IT Infrastructure Operations Team Manager at The Walsh Group, said, "With teams spread across the country and massive design files in constant motion, we needed a solution that could keep up with the pace and complexity of modern construction. Nasuni has transformed how we manage and protect our data. We can collaborate seamlessly across time zones, recover quickly from ransomware, and scale our storage without ever worrying about running out of space or slowing down critical workflows."
The Nasuni File Data Platform is used by a range of international firms including Perkins&Will, GeoVerra, LEO A DALY, Kimley-Horn, McKim & Creed, and Ramboll Global. Key features listed by Nasuni include optimised performance for applications such as AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, and ArcGIS, global file collaboration, ransomware protection, rapid restore capabilities with immutable cloud snapshots, and VPN-less remote file access for job sites and office locations.
Nick Burling, Senior Vice President of Product at Nasuni, commented, "The AEC industry is undergoing a digital transformation, and Nasuni is at the heart of it. Our platform is trusted by firms designing everything from major transportation systems and sustainable urban developments to large-scale healthcare and education facilities. With Nasuni, customers don't need to worry about how they're going to manage or access large amounts of data. We help them protect their assets, streamline infrastructure, and deliver on complex project timelines — all while reducing total cost of ownership."
Customers have reported up to 67% in storage cost savings and as much as five times faster file-sharing performance using Nasuni. The company also participates in industry groups, including being an affiliate member of the American Council of Engineering Companies.
Nasuni provides enterprises with a unified file data platform for unstructured data, aiming to improve business resilience and IT efficiency without requiring separate cybersecurity or backup measures.
