Nintex unveils agentic AI features to boost business automation

Thu, 25th Sep 2025

Nintex has announced new artificial intelligence capabilities as part of its Agentic Business Orchestration strategy, aiming to enhance intelligent processes, business orchestration, and the development of purpose-built solutions on its Nintex CE platform.

Agentic approach

Central to the announcement is Agentic Business Orchestration, Nintex's strategic direction for business process automation and application development. The Nintex CE platform, equipped with agentic capabilities, is designed to unify legacy systems, manual processes, and AI agents, transforming how organisations deliver strategic business outcomes. Intelligent agents within the platform can dynamically manage workflows, assign tasks, and adjust processes within organisational governance frameworks.

These enhancements include six new AI actions for document processing and Agent Designer, a forthcoming feature for building and orchestrating enterprise-grade AI agents. Existing generative AI features, including AI Process Generator and AI Workflow Generator, are complemented by these additions.

Maureen Fleming, Programme Vice President for Intelligent Process Automation research at IDC, commented on the wider market context,

"Agentic approaches are reshaping how enterprises think about automation, extending business orchestration beyond tasks and processes to focus on business outcomes. Agentic business orchestration represents a shift toward coordinating people, systems, and AI agents in governed ways that ensure automation and AI deliver measurable results at scale."

Platform development

Nintex has evolved from its original process engine roots to create the unified Nintex CE platform, which enables organisations to map, automate, and orchestrate operations across people and systems while building tailored AI-powered solutions. Its current direction aims to support business outcomes with purpose-built solutions, merging AI and human-driven innovation while addressing governance and scalability requirements.

Chief Executive Officer of Nintex, Amit Mathradas, emphasised the shift beyond traditional automation, stating,

"For centuries, automation has advanced in waves - from windmills and looms to digital assistants and RPA. Each chapter raised the bar, but most advances focused on isolated tasks. Today, organisations need more. The next era isn't just about automating what's in front of us: it's about orchestrating across people, systems, and AI agents to deliver outcomes at scale. That's what agentic business orchestration makes possible. By unifying process intelligence, agentic workflow orchestration, and AI-driven solution building in one governed platform, Nintex is helping organisations move beyond the clutter of software sprawl and the risks of disconnected AI pilots into a future where every process is purposeful, adaptive, and outcome-driven."

The platform's direction is to enable organisations to coordinate human, system, and AI agent interactions through a single environment focused on strategic outcomes via custom-built solutions.

Agent Designer and governance features

The forthcoming Agent Designer will allow organisations to design, evaluate, and orchestrate AI agents within the Nintex CE platform. Its key capabilities include building agents from scratch or by customising templates, orchestrating agents with workflows and applications, integrating these agents into core business systems, and incorporating third-party agents when required. All tasks will be managed in a governed, low-code environment suitable for mission-critical operations.

The company highlighted how Agent Designer aims to simplify the creation of specialised AI agents for IT leaders and business technologists while maintaining alignment with governance and compliance frameworks.

Niranjan Vijayaragavan, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Nintex, said,

"AI is rapidly removing barriers for organisations to innovate, automate, and reimagine their business operations, allowing them to reduce software footprint, drive material process efficiencies, and accelerate data-driven decisioning. Organisations need governance and auditability around agentic solutions that are being built. We architected Nintex CE so every process, decision, and action, whether manual or automated, flows seamlessly from trigger to outcome enabling compliance, auditability, security, and oversight for our customers."

AI document processing

Nintex has also introduced AI Document Processing, a capability that enables organisations to interpret and act on documents and images more efficiently as part of orchestrated workflows. This is especially relevant for sectors with significant document intake requirements, such as financial services, government, healthcare, and manufacturing.

Key native AI actions include text extraction, language detection, real-time translation, summarisation of lengthy documents, sentiment analysis, and structured information extraction, all designed to reduce manual review, unlock insights from unstructured data, and improve decision-making processes.

Kyle Seitz, President of SNAP Consulting, highlighted the significance of these capabilities in the healthcare sector,

"Nintex AI Document Processing has huge potential across healthcare, where unstructured documents pour in from multiple sources in all kinds of formats. Extracting key chart details from scanned PDFs has always been a slow, manual process, but this technology can streamline it dramatically. By automating data extraction across varied file types, it promises to save overworked teams hours of sifting and let them focus on member care."

The new features are designed to assist organisations in accelerating business processes, supporting compliance, and managing operational risk amid growing volumes of unstructured data and requirements for oversight in AI-driven automation.
