PUNTR has raised USD $500,000 from Accretion Capital to support product development and expansion in the United States.

The Los Angeles-based sports technology company's live product centres on daily skill-based challenges linked to real sporting events. Users make predictions across sports, build a performance record and compete through repeatable game formats.

Founded by Australians, PUNTR is positioning its product around participation rather than sports viewing. The investment supports its effort to build a more personalised interface for sports fans based on how they engage with matches, teams and players.

One part of the current product is a free Daily Challenge, in which users make 10 picks across sport. Each pick carries a different level of difficulty, and rankings are based on both accuracy and difficulty.

PUNTR also runs paid solo challenges in eligible markets, where users can enter fixed challenges for prizes. The company said the product is not a prediction-market exchange because it does not involve contract trading or require another participant to take the opposite side of a prediction.

Participation model

The model is based on the idea that repeated user choices reveal more about fan interest than a single declared favourite team or a click on an article. Those interactions can show which sports a fan understands, which teams or players attract attention and what kinds of challenges they prefer.

That data is intended to sit alongside live sports data to shape a more individual experience over time. PUNTR's longer-term direction includes more tailored challenges, relevant live moments, statistics, notifications and suggestions on people to follow.

PUNTR described those features as part of its broader product direction, rather than elements already available across the current product. It said the challenge format gives fans an initial reason to take part while creating a persistent record of interests and performance.

Companion focus

The business is framing its service as a companion to the wider sports experience rather than a replacement for live broadcasts. It noted that fans often split their time between watching a match, checking statistics, discussing events on social platforms and playing games linked to sport.

PUNTR wants to connect more of those activities through a product that understands the individual fan. It also said the funding announcement does not amount to the launch of any broadcast service, and that any future viewing products would depend on rights agreements and partnerships.

Social discovery also forms part of the company's thinking. Rankings, sporting records and shared interests are intended to help users compare performances and find other fans with similar interests, while still centring on the same live events.

Product and revenue

Brad Hunt leads the company's engineering, AI, live data, product architecture and design work. PUNTR said its development efforts bring those areas together around the current challenge product and its broader personalisation plans.

For now, its commercial approach is focused on the fan as the customer. The free product is designed to encourage regular use, while paid solo challenges in eligible markets provide revenue support.

The new funding gives PUNTR additional backing as it builds out that model in the US market, where sports engagement products continue to draw interest from investors and operators seeking new ways to hold audience attention beyond the live match itself.
