Qedma error software joins Quantinuum quantum platform

Qedma has integrated its error mitigation software with Quantinuum's quantum computing platform, giving Quantinuum users access to Qedma's QESEM software.

The integration follows a year of technical work through Quantinuum's Startup Partner Program, in which Qedma participated as a founding member. The software is intended to improve circuit fidelity on quantum workloads by reducing the impact of hardware errors in computing output.

Quantum computing groups have focused heavily on error reduction because noise and instability remain major constraints on current systems. Even as hardware accuracy improves, researchers and commercial users still face limits on the size and complexity of computations they can run reliably.

Qedma's product, Quantum Error Suppression and Error Mitigation, or QESEM, is designed to work with existing hardware rather than require a new machine design. It is described as hardware-agnostic software that helps users run larger, more complex algorithms while producing more accurate results on current quantum computers.

Quantinuum says its systems rank among the most accurate in the sector based on average two-qubit gate fidelity. That accuracy has supported quantum simulations at the edge of what can still be checked against classical computing methods, as well as applications in finance and materials science.

The addition of Qedma's software is intended to extend that work by enabling deeper computations on the same systems. In practice, users may be able to attempt more demanding simulations and research tasks without waiting for fully fault-tolerant quantum machines.

Error challenge

Error mitigation has become a key area of competition across the quantum industry. While long-term development continues toward error-corrected systems, many companies are trying to make current machines more useful by combining hardware advances with software methods that suppress or compensate for errors in results.

This matters because quantum computers remain highly sensitive to disturbances that can degrade output as circuits grow larger. The longer and more complex a computation becomes, the more likely accumulated errors are to reduce the reliability of the answer.

Qedma said its early work on Quantinuum systems showed promising results on difficult workloads. "Running algorithms beyond the reach of classical simulation requires quantum computers with both a large number of qubits and exceptionally low error rates - which is exactly why we wanted to join Quantinuum's Startup Partner Program," said Dr. Asif Sinay, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Qedma.

"In initial runs, QESEM's performance on Quantinuum systems showed benefits on extremely challenging quantum workloads, including simulations at the frontier of classical computation," Sinay said.

Partner strategy

For Quantinuum, the integration also reflects a broader effort to expand the software and research activity built around its hardware. Through its partner program, the company has opened access to its developer platform and quantum systems for smaller companies developing tools that could broaden practical use cases.

Strabley said the tie-up also fits the company's approach to customer access and third-party tools. "This partnership with Qedma reflects our commitment to giving customers the tools they need to solve groundbreaking problems on the best-in-class hardware," she said.

Qedma was founded by Sinay, Professor Dorit Aharonov and Professor Netanel Lindner. Aharonov is known for early work on quantum fault tolerance, while Lindner is a theoretical condensed matter physicist focused on complex quantum systems.

Quantinuum, headquartered in Colourado, employs about 700 people across sites in the US, UK, Germany, Japan, Qatar and Singapore. The company works with customers and research groups in sectors including pharmaceuticals, materials science, financial services, government and industry.
