Quontic Bank has linked Alkami's Digital Banking Platform with MANTL to combine account opening and digital banking activation. In less than three months, the share of new customers moving straight into digital banking rose from about 53% to the mid-70% range.

The change addresses a common break in the customer journey at many banks and credit unions, where account opening and online banking are separate steps. Quontic, a branchless bank with USD $715 million in assets, aimed to create a single path from application to onboarding and ongoing account use.

Figures released by the two companies also showed an increase in requests for follow-up services after the integration. Those requests included adding joint owners or beneficiaries, ordering checks and debit cards, and switching direct deposits. Total volumes doubled over the same period.

The results offer a snapshot of how lenders are trying to retain customers after winning new deposits. In a market where banks are competing for account holders, the period immediately after an application is approved can determine whether a customer becomes an active user or remains disengaged.

Quontic had already been using both systems before connecting them. The latest work allows customers who complete an application to move directly into online banking, with their information carried across.

Grace Pace, Senior Vice President of Digital Banking at Quontic Bank, described the bank's reasoning in a statement on the project.

"We were already using both Platforms, so connecting them into a single, integrated experience created the seamless digital journey we'd always envisioned for our customers. What excites us most is the ability to take an account holder from onboarding directly into online banking without missing a beat. Customers now move seamlessly from one experience to the next, with their data and relationship carrying forward every step of the way.

"That's a game changer - not just for the customer experience, but for our operations as well. Just as importantly, Alkami shares the same innovative mindset and ability to move quickly alongside us, giving us the confidence that we'll continue delivering a best-in-class digital experience that's truly differentiated in the market."

Earlier gains

The integration builds on a longer relationship between the bank and Alkami. Before linking MANTL with the digital banking platform, Quontic had already raised more than USD $800 million in deposits through MANTL and automated about 94% of application decisions.

Account opening takes less than three minutes, and the bank creates about 1,000 new customer relationships a month, with some faster-growth months reaching 5,000. Its banking app holds a 4.8 rating in Apple's App Store, according to the published figures.

Those numbers point to a bank focused heavily on digital acquisition and servicing. For a branchless lender, the ability to turn a new applicant into an active online banking user quickly is likely central to retention and cross-selling.

According to Alkami, Quontic also helped shape the integration through a beta group. That work focused on making account opening, activation, and ongoing digital banking feel more connected for users.

Industry pressure

The wider context is a banking sector under pressure to gather and retain deposits while reducing manual work. Automating application decisions can lower processing burdens, while a smoother handoff into digital banking may reduce abandonment after account opening.

For fintech providers and core banking suppliers, linking onboarding and account servicing is a competitive area. Rather than judging success only by the number of accounts opened, banks are increasingly measuring whether customers begin using key services immediately.

Stephen Bohanon, Founder and Chief Strategy Officer at Alkami, said work with customers had informed the design of the combined experience.

"From the beginning, we built these integrated capabilities alongside our customers, taking their feedback and real-world experiences to create a single journey without friction from account opening through digital banking to fuel long-term relationship growth.

"By bringing together Alkami and MANTL on a unified Platform, we are helping financial institutions turn more new account holders into highly engaged digital users from their very first interaction. Quontic's early results reinforce what we've long believed, which is that stronger digital engagement is a leading indicator of stronger relationships and better financial outcomes."
