Siemens brings Polarion X ALM platform to Microsoft Azure

Fri, 21st Nov 2025

Siemens Digital Industries Software will make its application lifecycle management software, Polarion X, available via Microsoft's Azure cloud platform.

ALM on cloud

Polarion X orchestrates the software engineering toolchain, aiming to help teams accelerate development cycles and maintain compliance. It integrates with both Azure DevOps and multiple Siemens applications, including Teamcenter, Designcenter, Opcenter, and Insights Hub. The approach brings together software requirements, code, builds, tests, deployments, and compliance records within a unified environment.

The new service includes AI-powered features that leverage the Azure OpenAI service to enable smart requirement analysis, risk detection, and predictive insights. Siemens said Copilot functionality will allow users to write requirements more quickly and with fewer errors.

One of the core propositions in the Azure deployment is full lifecycle traceability. Polarion X tracks requirements from initial definition through code, testing and deployment, maintaining version history and change management processes aligned with compliance standards. Siemens said the aim is to reduce audit preparation effort and provide a continuous single source of truth across distributed teams.

According to Siemens, Polarion X is intended for sectors where compliance requirements and cybersecurity are a priority. It is designed to include built-in management of software bills of materials (sBOM) and tools for audit readiness. Out-of-the-box support covers frameworks including DO-178C for aerospace, ISO 26262 and ISO/SAE 21434 for automotive, and 21 CFR Part 820 for medical devices. The system automates elements of audit readiness and ensures version-controlled artefacts endure across the product lifecycle.

Siemens positions Polarion X as part of its Xcelerator as a Service portfolio, aiming to serve organisations that need to manage complex, distributed software development. The company states that by using Azure's global cloud infrastructure, customers gain secure, real-time access for remote and internationally distributed engineering teams.

The collaboration extends a longstanding relationship between Siemens and Microsoft.

Frances Evans, Senior Vice President for Lifecycle Collaboration Software at Siemens Digital Industries Software, said the partnership aims to support organisations developing highly regulated software.

"Polarion X on Azure represents a major leap forward in how industrial organizations manage complexity, compliance, and collaboration when developing mission-critical software," said Frances Evans, senior vice president, Lifecycle Collaboration Software, Siemens Digital Industries Software. "Together with Microsoft, we're enabling our customers to harness trusted AI and cloud scalability to transform their application development processes."

Deployment at Ziehl-Abegg

The ventilation and drive technology manufacturer Ziehl-Abegg has adopted Polarion X on Azure. The firm migrated to Siemens' SaaS platform after evaluating the financial and technical benefits.

" The fully-hosted SaaS solution has significantly reduced downtime and maintenance efforts while meeting our security standards," said Christian Bock, head of Requirements Engineering, Ziehl-Abegg. "The ability to use licenses globally is facilitating collaboration with our international development hubs, keeping us constantly up-to-date with the latest features. We are confident that Polarion X on Azure is the best choice for our requirements and engineering strategy."
