SoFi has launched Composer by SoFi, an AI-powered investing platform for retail investors, following its acquisition of Composer Securities.

The platform lets users create, test and automate investment strategies using everyday language rather than code. Investors can build rules-based approaches around market views, technical signals or asset allocation preferences, then assess them against historical data before deciding whether to use them.

Composer by SoFi is aimed at individuals who want more systematic investing tools without relying on specialist software or constant manual portfolio management. The service guides users through strategy creation step by step, rather than requiring a fully formed trading model or highly specific prompt at the outset.

Users can start in three ways: design a strategy from scratch in plain English, browse a library of more than 2,000 community-built strategies, or combine different approaches into a broader portfolio suited to different market conditions.

The emphasis is on predefined rules rather than continuous machine-led decision-making. SoFi distinguished Composer and trading tools that let AI make ongoing market calls, saying the system is designed to help investors build strategies with clear conditions, filters and weightings that are then executed automatically.

This approach is intended to give investors more visibility into how a strategy works. Historical testing across different market environments is built into the process, allowing users to review past performance before activating a strategy.

AI push

The launch is part of a broader effort by SoFi to introduce more AI-based consumer finance tools across its app. The group recently introduced SoFi Coach, a financial assistant designed to help members understand and manage their money.

Composer also forms part of SoFi's strategy following the acquisition of the business behind the platform. The technology will be integrated into the wider SoFi product offering and made available through SoFi Plus, extending systematic investing tools to members already using the app for other financial services.

SoFi has been building a broader consumer finance ecosystem spanning borrowing, saving, spending, investing and insurance-related products. It said 14.7 million members use its services, while its Galileo technology platform supports 133 million global accounts for fintechs, financial institutions and brands.

The move comes as retail investing platforms seek to incorporate AI to simplify tasks that previously required coding knowledge or multiple specialist tools. In investing, firms have increasingly focused on natural language interfaces to lower the barrier to building more complex strategies while avoiding the opacity associated with fully autonomous trading systems.

For retail investors, that balance is likely to be an important point of differentiation. Many newer AI products promise easier access to sophisticated market tools, but investors and regulators alike have raised questions about transparency, oversight and how far users understand the logic behind automated decisions.

By keeping execution tied to investor-defined rules, SoFi is positioning Composer as a system that automates implementation rather than judgment. That may appeal to users who want help translating an idea into a structured process but do not want to hand over ongoing control of trading decisions to an AI model.

SoFi framed the acquisition as a way to strengthen its investing offering within the wider app. "Composer has built one of the most innovative AI-powered investing platforms available to retail investors today," said Anthony Noto, Chief Executive Officer of SoFi.

"Our acquisition of Composer reflects SoFi's strategy of identifying innovative technologies and exceptional teams that can strengthen our ecosystem over time. As AI becomes a foundational part of investing, Composer by SoFi strengthens our ability to deliver powerful investing tools through an experience that is simple, intuitive, and accessible," he added.
