Panorama Education said two Texas school districts used its artificial intelligence tools to improve special education planning and cut the time needed to draft Individualized Education Programs.
The districts reported gains in IEP quality and staff time savings as schools face rising special education caseloads.
La Joya ISD said it increased its adherence to the Texas Education Agency's IEP quality rubric from under 30% to more than 70% within one school year. According to the district, a third party verified progress across three indicators: data sources, measurable baselines, and curriculum alignment.
Mesquite ISD said staff reduced IEP drafting time from two to three hours per student to 45 minutes. According to the district, that amounted to more than 10,000 hours that could be redirected to student support.
The figures come as schools across the US face pressure to manage a growing number of students who qualify for special education services while meeting documentation requirements. Panorama said nearly 8.2 million students nationwide now qualify for those services.
Debate over the use of AI in special education has focused on whether automated drafting tools can meet legal requirements for plans tailored to individual students. Panorama said the districts were using AI trained on district student data and state-specific requirements, with educators reviewing and approving each plan.
La Joya results
La Joya had already been using Panorama's platform for student support and multi-tiered systems of support work. It then extended that system to special education through Panorama Solara, which brings together student information, state requirements, and district standards.
The district set a goal of raising IEP quality from under 30% to the Texas Education Agency's 85% target for 2028-29. Its latest result put it above 70% after one school year.
"This allows our educators across the district to do more strategic work and focus on aligning student needs with instruction, rather than getting stuck in compliance tasks. When done with integrity, this translates directly to the quality of service we deliver to our students and, subsequently, to families having confidence in the support their child is receiving," said Dr. Marcey Sorensen, Superintendent of La Joya ISD.
Mesquite changes
Mesquite ISD, which operates 52 campuses, had also been using Panorama's platform for student support and MTSS work. After adding the special education tool, the district reduced the time needed to prepare IEPs and shortened data analysis tied to intervention planning.
According to the district, data analysis time fell from two to three weeks to one to two days. That helped staff identify 152 students for Response to Intervention, up from 16.
"Panorama is giving our educators valuable time back while helping them create individualized IEPs grounded in student information. That means more time to focus on supporting our students," said Dr. Matt Morris, Executive Director of Special Education at Mesquite ISD.
AI in schools
Panorama framed the district case studies as evidence that AI in special education may be more effective when tied to school systems, student records, and state rules rather than used as a general writing assistant. It said its system operates within district secure environments instead of as a standalone chatbot.
Aaron Feuer, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Panorama Education, said discussion around AI in special education has focused too heavily on automation.
"Every student deserves the support and services they need to thrive, and special education is a critical part of delivering on that promise. We're excited to help special education teams create stronger support plans while reducing administrative work so educators can spend more time directly supporting students," said Aaron Feuer, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Panorama Education.
"There's enormous potential for AI to advance special education, but too many conversations today focus on automation alone. What makes Panorama different is that it helps educators create quality plans, provide better support, and ultimately improve outcomes for students and families," Feuer said.
Panorama said its platform is used by more than 15 million students nationwide across MTSS, instruction, surveys, special education, and graduation pathways.
