Bill Harris has launched Evergreen.ai, an artificial intelligence financial advice app for US consumers, available on mobile and desktop browsers.

The app provides personalised guidance on financial planning, retirement, investing, tax strategies, homeownership, equity compensation, and college savings. Users who register during the beta period can use it free of charge through 1 January 2028.

Harris is a long-standing figure in financial technology and previously served as chief executive officer of PayPal and Intuit. He also founded Personal Capital, an investment firm that grew to USD $23 billion in client assets under management, according to Evergreen.ai.

Evergreen.ai is offered through Evergreen Wealth Advisors, a registered investment adviser and fiduciary. It aims to bring advice techniques more commonly used by wealthier investors to a broader section of the public.

How it works

The service combines a conversational interface with analytical tools and financial data. According to the company, it tracks a user's income, expenses and investments, then uses that information to answer questions tailored to the individual's circumstances.

Features include short-term cash flow planning, long-term retirement projections, security prices, watchlists and fundamentals. The app also covers stock options, restricted stock units, founder stock and qualified small business stock, alongside net worth tracking through linked bank, brokerage and credit accounts.

Housing and tax questions are another focus. Users can access mortgage calculators, rent-versus-buy analysis, information on retirement accounts such as 401(k)s and IRAs, and tools related to tax-loss harvesting, charitable giving and education savings.

Its calculation engine performs the tax and financial mathematics behind responses, while the artificial intelligence interface presents the results in formats including text, tables, charts and interactive calculations. The company says this structure is intended to address concerns about errors or unsupported answers from general-purpose chatbots used for financial questions.

"Until today, the best financial advice has always been out of reach for everyday Americans," said Bill Harris, founder and chief executive officer of Evergreen.ai.

"A 2024 survey found that 73% of American adults don't use a financial advisor. At the same time, more consumers are turning to general-purpose AI chatbots for financial advice instead. It's problematic because those models often lack the personalized data needed for situation-specific answers, can produce incorrect numbers, and aren't built to protect the financial details people share with them. Evergreen.ai is different. It combines specialized models, knowledge bases and quantitative tools built for one purpose only: personalized financial advice," Harris said.

Security focus

Security and privacy are central issues for any service that handles personal financial information. Evergreen.ai says account linking is handled through Plaid, meaning bank credentials are not shared with the artificial intelligence system itself.

The company says user data is encrypted, not sold to third parties, and not used to train public artificial intelligence models. Those assurances address a growing area of concern as more consumers test generative AI products for sensitive tasks such as budgeting, tax planning and investment research.

Bryan Godwin, the company's co-founder and chief technology officer, said the system was built to separate language generation from the underlying calculations. According to the company, he has filed seven pending patents related to the platform.

"Evergreen.ai was engineered specifically to address where general-purpose AI falls short in financial advice," said Bryan Godwin, co-founder and chief technology officer of Evergreen.ai.

"Today, the harness matters as much as the model. Our secure architecture pairs probabilistic Large Language Models (LLMs) that excel at communication with deterministic software that runs the actual calculations and grounds each answer in current financial and tax knowledge. Combined with each user's complete financial picture, it's how we deliver advice that's personalized, consistent and verifiable," Godwin said.

The launch comes as financial services groups and technology start-ups alike try to define how artificial intelligence can be used in consumer money management. Many current tools offer general information or budgeting support, but fewer products attempt to give situation-specific answers across investments, taxes, property and long-term planning within a single interface.

Evergreen.ai is privately held and based in Miami. Harris said its broader aim is to widen access to financial guidance at lower cost through software that can respond on demand around the clock.
