Datadog named Leader in Gartner observability report for fifth year

Fri, 11th Jul 2025

Datadog has been recognised as a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Observability Platforms for the fifth consecutive year.

The designation follows Gartner's evaluation of technology providers in the observability sector, assessing companies based on their ability to execute and the completeness of their vision. In Gartner's Magic Quadrant structure, Leaders are described as those companies that execute well against their current vision and are well positioned for tomorrow.

Observability market

The Magic Quadrant for Observability Platforms is informed by Gartner's research into the application performance monitoring and observability market. The assessment provides organisations with an overview of vendors' strengths and abilities to meet customer requirements in a rapidly evolving area, where differentiation among providers is considered distinct and market growth remains high. The quadrant categorises providers into four segments: Leaders, Visionaries, Niche Players, and Challengers, each defined by differing levels of vision and execution.

Datadog's continued presence in the Leader category is underpinned by its focus on product development and research and development. The company states that feedback from its customers is a significant driver for the features and enhancements introduced to the platform each year.

Customer insights

Recent feedback from customers on Gartner Peer Insights reflects on the practical impact of the platform for organisations of varying industries and scales. A Senior Director of Engineering at a software company commented:

Datadog provides incredible insights into complex tooling. They continue to innovate and add new features regularly throughout the year, and their CSM [customer success management] team is very responsive and helpful. The user interface is very clean and easy to use, even with a tremendous amount of data and features. The APM and USM [universal service monitoring] features have been invaluable additions to our observability and helping us remediate issues quickly. The Watchdog feature has also been terrific for proactive alerting of things that didn't have specific monitors set up.

Similarly, an SRE Engineer at a healthcare and biotech company said:

The insights that we're able to get by building custom metrics within Datadog have been invaluable. We've managed to catch behaviours within our application that we otherwise wouldn't have caught, and it's helped us create a more reliable experience for our customers.

Company perspective

Yanbing Li, Chief Product Officer at Datadog, said the company values its standing within the industry and views ongoing research as essential to its strategy.

It is significant for us to see Gartner name Datadog a Leader in its Magic Quadrant for Observability Platforms for a fifth straight year. Product innovation and R&D continue to be key focus areas for us as both Datadog and our customers embrace AI to build and improve applications, workflows and cloud environments. We look forward to working with our user base to further our product strategy and leadership in the market.

Broader context

The recognition by Gartner is based on assessments by the research organisation and does not amount to endorsement of any vendor, product or service mentioned in its publications. Feedback on platforms such as Gartner Peer Insights consists of individual opinions from users based on their own experiences.

Datadog provides a software-as-a-service platform that covers infrastructure monitoring, application performance monitoring, log management, user experience monitoring, cloud security and related services. The platform is used by a broad range of organisations seeking unified oversight and enhanced security for their technology environments as they undertake digital transformation and cloud migration initiatives.
