Elvee has expanded its artificial intelligence platform for higher education institutions, aiming to help colleges and universities identify and support students at risk of dropping out.
The firm, based in New York City, first developed its AI platform for use in corporate human resources, focusing on early detection of employee attrition. According to the company, its solutions have achieved up to a 50 per cent reduction in staff turnover annually in enterprise environments. Now, it is branching out to post-secondary institutions, hoping to improve enrollment retention.
Dropout challenge
Nearly one in three college students is projected to drop out of their programs each year. Student departures not only undermine individual prospects but also carry financial consequences for institutions, with some facing up to a 25 per cent loss in immediate revenue and diminished long-term alumni engagement.
Early warning
Elvee's AI platform analyses over 100 data points per student to detect risk factors several months before traditional signals typically emerge. These factors include academic performance, financial stress, engagement levels, and personal circumstances that may threaten a student's continuation.
Once risk indicators are recognised, the platform delivers specific recommendations for support. Suggested interventions may include academic tutoring, mental health services, emergency financial aid, or targeted advising efforts. The company says this enables administrators to act before students make final decisions to leave.
"We're proud to apply our proven science of elevated lifetime value to the world of higher education and help ensure the next generation leaves college with a degree in hand. Rather than reacting to student dropouts after it's too late, Elvee empowers institutions to intervene early and give every student a real chance to succeed," said Raz Dar, CEO of Elvee.
Integration features
The platform is designed for rapid implementation. According to Elvee, it integrates with learning management systems, including Canvas by Instructure, aggregating existing communication channels such as email and text messaging into a single interface. This streamlines access to student data and institutional records. The company notes this can allow a university or college to deploy the system within days rather than months.
Projecting impact
Elvee claims that, based on results in other sectors, colleges using its solution may reduce student dropout rates by at least 5 per cent, potentially preserving around USD $5 million in annual revenue for a typical institution. Other potential benefits outlined include increased student satisfaction, improved academic outcomes, and more efficient administrative operations.
The company says early identification of risk and tailored interventions form the core of its strategy, translated now from the workplace to the academic arena.
"Rather than reacting to student dropouts after it's too late, Elvee empowers institutions to intervene early and give every student a real chance to succeed," said Dar.
