Motorola acquires RapidDeploy to enhance emergency tech offering
Motorola Solutions has announced the acquisition of RapidDeploy, a provider of cloud-native 911 solutions for public safety based in Austin, Texas.
The RapidDeploy product suite is designed to improve emergency response and decision-making processes. Notably, it includes Radius Mapping, which facilitates precise real-time call location mapping, enabling faster dispatching of emergency services. In addition, the suite offers a mobile application named Lightning, which provides first responders with critical 911 call data accessible on smartphones or tablets.
Mahesh Saptharishi, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Motorola Solutions, highlighted the importance of timely response in emergencies, stating, "In a crisis of any magnitude – a vehicle accident, medical emergency or active shooter – every second counts during the emergency response. RapidDeploy's technology connects first responders with critical information so they can reach those in need faster and be more prepared, saving valuable time in emergencies."
Furthermore, 911 telecommunicators using RapidDeploy's systems have access to real-time data, which includes GPS caller locations, indoor floor plans, and various forms of communication like text and live video, all of which can be communicated directly to responders in the field. The integration of RapidDeploy with Motorola Solutions' existing Rave suite is intended to enhance information sharing and notifications among public safety officials and first responders.
The acquisition aims to enhance the capabilities of public safety agencies by integrating RapidDeploy's technology into Motorola Solutions' VESTA 911 call handling software and the AI-driven VESTA NXT platform, thereby boosting operational speed and efficiency. This move is expected to bolster situational awareness and data access during emergencies, consequently aiding community services more efficiently.
Steve Raucher, Co-Founder and CEO of RapidDeploy, expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition, saying, "We are honoured to join Motorola Solutions, a company that shares our commitment to public safety and our mission of saving lives by reducing response times. Together, we will continue to accelerate innovation in 911 technology, helping to make NG911 smarter, more unified and seamlessly integrated to empower first responders and help save more lives."
The transaction details of the acquisition have not been disclosed. RapidDeploy currently supports over 1,600 PSAPs/emergency communications centres across 24 states, and the integration of its technologies with Motorola Solutions is expected to extend the benefits to more agencies.
