NetApp named leader in 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for storage
NetApp has been recognised as a Leader in the 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Storage Platforms.
The Gartner Magic Quadrant report evaluates companies in the enterprise storage sector, assessing their "Ability to Execute" and "Completeness of Vision". The 2025 edition combines earlier reports on primary storage, as well as file and object storage platforms, reflecting changing industry needs around storage capacities for both structured and unstructured data.
Gartner's assessment highlights the increasing need for head of infrastructure and operations to consider both platform-native service capabilities and product features when implementing modern IT storage systems. This includes deployments handling block, file and object storage within enterprises.
The 2025 report places providers into four categories: Leaders, Challengers, Visionaries, and Niche Players, offering a broad perspective on how companies position themselves in a growing and differentiated storage market. According to Gartner, this classification helps organisations align technology adoption with specific business requirements.
Cesar Cernuda, President at NetApp, commented on the company's inclusion in the Leaders quadrant. He stated,
"For us, being named a Leader in the inaugural 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Storage Platforms validates NetApp's consistent focus on building solutions that directly meet the needs of our customers. This recognition is in addition to being named a Customers' Choice in the 2025 Gartner Peer Insights 'Voice of the Customer' for Primary Storage Platforms. To meet the demands of today's critical enterprise workloads like virtualization and prepare for new strategic workloads like AI, our customers need data infrastructure with built-in intelligence. NetApp helps them meet those needs now and into the future with reliable, scalable, and innovative storage solutions."
The recognition as a Leader follows NetApp's recent distinction as a Customers' Choice in the 2025 Gartner Peer Insights 'Voice of the Customer' for Primary Storage Platforms. This report drew on verified input from 126 end users of NetApp's platforms, with 98% of respondents saying they would recommend the company's solutions as of the end of December 2024.
NetApp's performance in these reports underscores its aim to support customers across a range of priorities, including modernising data infrastructure, transforming cloud architectures, advancing artificial intelligence initiatives, and reinforcing cyber resilience. The company asserts that its solutions enable enterprises to use data infrastructure as a driver for broader business outcomes, not just as a technology concern.
The continuous changes in the storage industry are reflected in Gartner's evolving analytical approach. Past recognition for NetApp includes presence in the Magic Quadrant for Primary Storage Platforms between 2013 and 2024, as well as consistent leadership throughout the last decade in segments such as solid-state arrays and general-purpose disk arrays.
Gartner research publications involve a systematic approach, compiling market data and vendor positioning to offer guidance for organisations considering technology investments. The insights provided are based on the company's analysis and aggregated user feedback, rather than being endorsements or direct recommendations.
NetApp attributes the continued recognition from both Gartner and its own customer base to its focus on supporting key enterprise requirements, from protecting infrastructure against cyber threats to enabling data-driven decision making through artificial intelligence.
The Gartner Peer Insights content and wider Magic Quadrant methodology involve a combination of expert and end-user input, supporting technology leaders as they plan for both immediate and strategic IT storage needs in a dynamic market landscape.
