Prosper AI raises USD $5m to automate US healthcare admin tasks

Wed, 24th Sep 2025

Prosper AI has secured USD $5 million in seed funding to develop its voice artificial intelligence platform aimed at addressing the USD $450 billion annual administrative burden in the US healthcare sector.

The company's approach centres on automating a range of critical administrative tasks within hospitals, medical billing organisations, and medical practices. Prosper AI's technology is already being used within major healthcare systems, where it reports significant improvements in operational efficiency.

Industry challenge

Administrative costs account for a substantial proportion of healthcare expenditure in the United States. It is estimated that a third of all staff in US hospitals and physician offices are employed in administrative roles, managing tasks such as handling incoming calls, liaising with insurers, and following up on claims. This reliance has led to increased waiting times for patients, missed appointments, and significant expenditure on billing and administrative work.

Prosper AI's platform integrates artificial intelligence-driven voice agents into existing workflows, focusing on both patient-facing and back-office processes. The agents are capable of automating tasks such as patient scheduling, billing, insurance verification, and prior authorisations, interfacing directly with practice management systems and electronic health records.

Growth and adoption

The recent funding round was led by Emergence Capital, with participation from Y Combinator, CRV, and Company Ventures. Prosper AI has reported that its revenue increased fourfold since the second quarter of 2025, reflecting growing adoption across the sector.

Currently, the platform is utilised by clients including a hospital affiliated with Providence, a Fortune 50 pharmaceutical company, a medical billing company serving top US health systems, and an electronic health record system that works with more than 100,000 medical providers.

Prosper AI co-founders Josep Mingot and Xavier de Gracia established the company in 2023 after meeting in Boston while studying at MIT and Harvard. They developed the platform with an emphasis on specialised AI agents tailored for regulated industries such as healthcare.

"Our mission is to unlock universal access to care by empowering healthcare organizations to achieve unprecedented efficiency with AI Agents", said Xavier de Gracia, co-founder of Prosper AI.

Operational impact

At Synergy Healthcare Associates, which operates as a multispecialty group, Prosper AI has been integrated to automate more than half of all front desk calls, spanning functions from scheduling to waitlist management. The system is being expanded into benefits processing and claims administration.

"Prosper has redefined how our call center runs by simplifying intricate processes, shortening patient wait times and boosting efficiency, all the while sounding very human. The team's ability to deliver at speed, and customize to our needs has been incredible," said Nathan Woelfel, Chief Operating Officer at Synergy Healthcare Associates.

For patient interactions, Prosper AI's clients report a 50 to 70 per cent automation rate for inbound calls, including scheduling and billing inquiries. In interactions with insurance payers, the AI agents automate processes such as benefits verification, prior authorisations, and claims follow-up, achieving a reported 99 per cent accuracy when navigating payer systems and delivering turnaround times under two hours for complex tasks.

Every deployment of Prosper AI is customised to match an organisation's specific workflows, standard operating procedures, and technology environment, ensuring integration with existing systems and immediate value delivery.

"Xavier and Josep have achieved remarkable enterprise traction by building battle-tested AI voice agents specifically for healthcare's complex requirements. They're creating the most sophisticated voice AI platform to make quality healthcare accessible and affordable at scale" said Jake Saper, General Partner at Emergence Capital.

Future plans

With the new investment, Prosper AI intends to extend its capabilities beyond voice-based agents, exploring AI technologies for broader roles in healthcare, such as processing faxes, integrating with APIs, and taking direct actions within electronic health record systems. The company has outlined a vision to become a comprehensive AI workforce for healthcare institutions, aiming to address inefficiencies and reallocate resources to support universal access to healthcare.
