Provident Bank has rolled out Alkami's MANTL business and retail account-opening system across its 135-branch network, giving the bank a single platform for opening accounts in branches and online.

More than 800 staff now use the system, which replaces separate tools for digital and in-branch account opening. The change covers both consumer and business accounts at Provident, which has more than USD $25 billion in assets.

The bank is also using the platform for a broader range of products beyond standard current and savings accounts. These include minor accounts and individual retirement accounts online and in branches, as well as more complex products handled by branch staff, such as personal and business fiduciary accounts, revocable and irrevocable trust accounts, estate accounts, and escrow accounts.

The rollout took place alongside a core system conversion, making it one of two major operational changes completed at the same time. The work involved revising existing account-opening processes rather than replicating older workflows on a new system.

Single workflow

The implementation reflects a broader effort by lenders to combine branch-based and digital account opening into a single process. Banks have spent years steering customers toward online channels, but branches remain important for more complex products and for customers who want in-person support.

Using one system reduces the need for staff to switch between platforms, leaving branch teams more time to work directly with customers instead of handling administration.

Scott Hurlbert, Senior Vice President, Digital Channels Director at Provident Bank, said the approach is part of a broader effort to make customer interactions more consistent across channels.

"Our partnership with MANTL is built on a shared vision and a strong level of trust in how technology can enhance the customer experience," Hurlbert said.

"By bringing our digital and branch account-opening capabilities together on one platform, we're creating a competitive advantage for Provident while making the experience simpler and more consistent for both our customers and our team members. Just as important, we're investing in our people by giving them the technology, training, and tools they need to be there for our customers whenever and however they choose to engage with us, whether online, in a branch, or through our contact center."

Branch demand

The launch comes as branch-based account opening remains a significant source of activity for MANTL. Alkami said in-branch account opening has become the product's highest-volume growth channel in 2026, reaching nearly 90,000 booked applications in a single month.

That suggests banks are not treating branches simply as a legacy network to maintain while digital channels expand. Instead, many are using branches as part of a joined-up sales and service model, particularly for small businesses and customers with more specialised digital banking needs.

Provident operates across New Jersey and parts of New York and Pennsylvania. Founded in Jersey City in 1839, it also provides fiduciary and wealth management services through Beacon Trust Company and insurance services through Provident Protection Plus.

Training focus

Provident and Alkami said the project also focused on staff training and change management. As part of the rollout, the bank created a customised training environment for employees across the organisation.

Benjamin Conant, Chief Product Officer at Alkami, said the bank had focused on both staff and customer use of the system during the implementation.

"Provident Bank took a team member- and customer-first approach to modernizing account opening," Conant said.

"By unifying business and retail account openings online and across 135 branches with MANTL, Provident Bank is giving more than 800 team members a simpler, more consistent way to serve applicants. This is how financial institutions turn the branch into a connected growth driver-equipping team members with more time and capacity to build relationships while delivering consistent experiences across channels."
