Azul & Payara partner to simplify codeless Java migration
Azul and Payara have announced a strategic partnership aimed at streamlining the modernisation of Java applications through an integrated, codeless migration solution.
The partnership combines Azul Platform Prime and Payara Qube to deliver a high-performance, scalable solution for organisations seeking to accelerate Java application modernisation without modifying existing code. This offering arrives at a time when regulated industries, such as finance and healthcare, are facing increased demand for application agility and operational efficiency.
Integrated platform
Payara Qube is positioned as a managed cloud-native platform for deploying enterprise Java applications, providing automated, pre-configured Kubernetes environments, built-in observability, and compliance controls. By integrating Azul Platform Prime, which enhances performance and consistency in Java runtime environments, the combined product aims to address technical and operational challenges associated with cloud adoption and legacy application modernisation.
Azul and Payara state that the platform does not require changes to application code and is compatible with any Java application or JVM-based workload. The solution targets teams managing large portfolios of Java applications as well as those operating across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
Cost and control
According to the companies, the combined solution is designed to help customers simplify the process of migrating applications to the cloud, while reducing both infrastructure and cloud spending, all while maintaining full control over their cloud environments. The approach, often referred to as 'lift-and-shift', focuses on the rapid migration of workloads rather than costly redevelopment efforts.
"We are delighted to expand our partnership with Payara," said Scott Sellers, co-founder and CEO at Azul. "By integrating Azul Platform Prime with Payara Qube, enterprise customers can quickly modernize their Java applications with codeless, lift-and-shift migrations that ensure the highest performance, best security and lowest cost of ownership, all without changing a single line of code."
Java deployment in regulated sectors
The partnership is expected to be particularly relevant for organisations in sectors with strict compliance requirements. The joint announcement highlights the solution's compliance-ready controls and operational transparency, which are core considerations for highly regulated industries.
"This partnership between Payara and Azul isn't just a collaboration - it's a game-changer for Kubernetes-native Java application deployment," said Steve Millidge, founder and CEO of Payara. "Azul Platform Prime brings unmatched performance and efficiency to Payara Qube's revolutionary Java platform. Together, we're redefining how enterprises run Java - faster, more securely, and with dramatically lower cloud costs, all without the usual complexity of containerized environments."
Application portfolios and cloud journeys
The availability of a codeless migration path could prove valuable for global businesses operating with varied and complex application stacks. The companies point to the solution's ability to support seamless adoption of cloud infrastructures, helping ease the transition for those with extensive investments in existing Java technologies.
By prioritising compatibility and operational efficiency, the offering aims to address common concerns associated with containerisation and cloud-native deployments for Java-based enterprise applications. Integrated monitoring, compliance, and cost management tools are intended to support these organisations as they modernise their infrastructure.
The partnership underscores the evolving needs of Java users, particularly enterprises seeking to strike a balance between performance gains and operational simplicity, while also managing risk amid the shift to cloud environments.
