Convey acquires Selectron to broaden public sector software

Convey has acquired Selectron, broadening its offering in utilities and state and local government software.

Selectron supplies citizen engagement, field operations, inspection management and payment software to utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, public safety organisations and government agencies across the United States. The combination adds electronic bill presentment, PCI-certified payments and mobile inspection tools to Convey's existing communications and engagement products.

The transaction brings together two businesses that serve overlapping public sector and regulated industry customers across different parts of the workflow. Convey focuses on communications and customer engagement for utilities and other regulated sectors, while Selectron specialises in payments, inspections and field operations.

As a result, the combined business will cover a wider range of services, including customer communications, self-service, bill presentment, payment processing, service requests, inspections and field activity management. Selectron's Atlas platform will remain part of the expanded product set.

Broader reach

Atlas is used for building inspections, zoning inspections and other community services. The platform lets inspectors manage fieldwork, record pass or fail outcomes, automate reinspection workflows and capture activity on mobile devices, while giving citizens updates during the inspection process.

The acquisition also creates cross-selling opportunities across both customer bases. Convey's customers will gain access to payment and field operations software, while Selectron's customers will be offered Convey's communications products and AI orchestration tools.

Financial terms were not disclosed, and the companies did not say whether Selectron would continue to operate as a separate brand.

In the utility and public sector software market, customer engagement platforms have increasingly expanded beyond notifications and contact management into billing, payments and operational workflows. Local authorities and utility providers are under pressure to digitise interactions with residents and customers while improving visibility into field service and inspection processes.

The deal strengthens Convey's position with utility providers as well as state and local government organisations. Selectron has built its presence in those markets through electronic payment offerings, automated communications and software tailored to public sector requirements.

Maulik Datanwala described the rationale for the purchase as combining adjacent product areas.

Public sector focus

Selectron's customer base includes utilities and government agencies that use digital channels such as IVR, web, text messaging, notifications and payments to handle routine communications and service interactions. Those tools are often closely tied to local government processes such as permitting, inspections and collections.

The acquisition gives Convey a larger footprint in that segment at a time when software suppliers are trying to link front-end engagement systems more closely with back-office execution. Adding payment handling and inspection workflow management could help it pitch a more integrated system to agencies seeking fewer software vendors.
