Western Alliance launches 24/7 USD settlement platform
Mon, 27th Jul 2026 (Today)
Western Alliance Bank has launched WA VenueX, a financial platform for institutional digital asset clients that includes a 24/7 U.S. dollar settlement network.
The platform is aimed at approved institutional counterparties that need real-time dollar liquidity for digital asset activity within a regulated banking environment. It has already processed billions of dollars in transaction volume since an initial rollout earlier this year.
That activity has included stablecoin minting and redemption, institutional digital asset settlement, and real-time liquidity rebalancing. The launch places Western Alliance among a small group of regulated U.S. financial institutions offering round-the-clock settlement infrastructure to institutional digital asset markets.
WA VenueX Network is currently available to selected digital asset clients. Broader functions will be added in phases, with custody, financing, tokenisation, and programmable financial services under development.
Round-the-clock banking
The launch reflects a wider shift in global financial markets toward continuous trading and settlement, especially in digital assets, where activity often runs outside standard banking hours. Western Alliance is seeking to address that mismatch by offering uninterrupted U.S. dollar settlement through its own banking network.
The bank has built its digital asset banking business over nearly five years and now serves about 150 institutional clients, including stablecoin issuers, exchanges, and trading firms. WA VenueX is part of that effort, giving clients a way to move funds continuously rather than relying on batch processing or business-day cut-off times.
Dale Gibbons, Vice Chairman and Chief Banking Officer, Deposit Initiatives & Innovation, at Western Alliance Bank, linked the launch to the bank's broader funding strategy.
"Western Alliance Bank is always looking for innovative ways to better serve our clients while advancing the S-curve funding growth strategy we outlined at our Investor Day in May. WA VenueX reflects that approach by delivering scalable, compliant financial infrastructure designed for digital asset businesses that operate around the clock. In addition to providing real-time U.S. dollar liquidity, WA VenueX supports our ongoing deposit remixing efforts, contributing to a more diversified and durable source of funding while further strengthening our position as a leading banking partner to the digital asset industry," Gibbons said.
The reference to deposit remixing points to a balance sheet benefit as well as a client service offering. By attracting operational deposits from digital asset firms, Western Alliance is aiming to diversify funding sources at a time when banks remain focused on deposit stability and composition.
Broader platform
WA VenueX is intended to expand beyond settlement into a broader institutional platform within the bank. Planned additions include support for stablecoin-related workflows, digital asset-backed financing, and tokenised asset structures.
David Fragale, Senior Managing Director, Digital Assets Group, at Western Alliance Bank, said the lender sees the product as more than a payments rail.
"WA VenueX brings together real-time USD settlement and a roadmap toward integrated digital asset capabilities within a single platform. With WA VenueX Network live and already processing billions in transaction volume, clients currently access always-on USD liquidity and can prepare for broader digital asset workflows as the platform evolves. Ultimately, WA VenueX will be a one-stop hub inside the bank for the digital assets ecosystem," Fragale said.
The bank is supporting integration through an application programming interface offered by its Digital Asset Banking team. The setup is designed for institutions that need automated access to banking services as they manage flows between fiat currency and digital asset markets.
Coinbase is among the network's early users. The exchange said uninterrupted access to dollar liquidity is important for institutional market participants operating on a 24/7 basis.
"Coinbase is proud to work with Western Alliance and leverage WA VenueX as part of our 24/7 operating model. Reliable, around-the-clock access to U.S. dollar liquidity is critical for institutional participants, and WA VenueX delivers that capability within a trusted banking framework. We believe platforms like WA VenueX will play a foundational role in the continued growth of the digital asset ecosystem, and we look forward to contributing to a more connected, efficient and always-on financial system," Martin said.
Western Alliance has more than USD $90 billion in assets. The launch of WA VenueX adds to growing competition among banks seeking to serve institutional digital asset firms while keeping those services within regulated banking channels.
